What if this is all a dream?

What if the skies were never gray,
And the sun never went away?
What if no one ever cried,
And no one ever lied?
What if life had no surprises?
And no more compromises.
What if our water was made of honey?
And no one was ever lonely.
What if we gazed into someone’s eyes,
And found the answer to all of our why’s?
What if people always smiled,
That would be so wild.

What if we become one,
And never have to run?
What if the sun always shines,
And you become mine?
What if when the eagle soars,
I become yours?
What if we get to the point of no return,
And no longer yearn?
What if we ever get the chance
To have our dance?
What if this is all a dream,
And not what it seems?

I would think the amount of poems would depend on the length. If your poems are say 5-10 pages each and you have 50 poems that would give you 250-500 pages. That would be a fairly thick book. There books called chapbooks- small book of poems. I believe there may be 10-20 short poems in those. Check out some of the poetry books by your favorite poets. See what's in their books. The best way to learn about writing what ever your genre is to read, talk and listen to other writers.
I have a writers group and there are a couple of poets and I will ask them.

Hey Deborah!

You're practically my neighbor! I live in Marietta (right outside of Atlanta) I know many friends who have written books with collections of poetry and they varied as far as being related (other than the same person wrote them) In my personal opinion I like poetry collections where the poems are all different. It shows the moods and thoughts of the poet.
With a book it should have a common thread- such as romance stories, funny stories or they all take place in the same town, etc. I am not saying this is the rule, just what I think and have experienced.
Best to you!
